Fjällbacka, located halfway between Oslo and Gothenburg, is one of our favorite spots mostly because of the beauty of this picturesque fishing town of redwood homes nestled in the shadow of the Kungsklyftan (King’s Cliff). From a dedicated plaza to Ingrid Bergman, who had a home in nearby Dannholmen Islet, we climbed the Kungsklyftan stairs to the top of the cliff and across the plateau where there are far reaching views across the scattered islands. Fjällbacka is widely known in Sweden as the setting for the crime novels written by Camilla Läckberg, but we find it tranquil in the off season and full of the tourist vibe in the summer. We even bought a board game called The Fjällbacka Game whose designer we met at the tourist bureau – it is a great way to learn about the region! Restaurant Matilda is a fabulous place for a sundowner and the night we took advantage of this fact, there was live music perfectly suited to our 1980s and 1990s music taste!
